North Korea win World Cup! (29.06.2010)

No need to readjust your screens, North Korea have really won the World Cup - but only the Azzurri Fives version! On Saturday 19th June teams gathered at our venue in Egham to fight it out for the trophy and we saw some fantastic football.

After the initial group stages we eventually got through to the quarter finals that saw Argentina beat Japan, Algeria overcome Greece, Spain narrowly get past New Zealand and North Korea scrape by Holland. That left a semi final line up of Argentina vs Algeria and North Korea vs Spain, with two very different games. Argentina managed to get past the Algerians in a very close game 4-3, whilst North Korea hammered a tired looking Spain side 5-1.

The final was as close a game as you can get with the scores tied at 7-7 after normal time, and 8-8 after extra time. The game went to penalties with North Korea running out 4-3 winners on spot kicks. Ben Knight and his team were delighted to pick up the much coverted trophy!

Well done to all teams who took part!

Aldershot Pools Kicks Off In Style (16.04.2010)

The new Aldershot Pools League's kicked off this week with cup competitions on Monday and Wednesday night. Teams competed in group stages, followed by knock out competition and there was some fantastic football on show!

The Monday night Cup was won by Team Elite, who needed extra time to beat Inter Yasister 4-3 in the final in an exciting game that was always going to be close after both sides came through the rest of the tournament with 100% records.

Wednesday night's Cup was more clear cut with winners Aldershot Spartans beating everyone put in front of them, and scoring 19 goals in just 5 matches. The only team that rose to the challenge against them was Mighty Duke in the final but they were unlucky to be beaten 1-0, after coming through their games also with a 100% record.

Its not to late to be part of the action, as the Leagues kick off on Monday 19th, or Wednesday 21st April and we do still have places available. There will also be new divisions starting in the coming weeks as well, so if you miss out for this one get your team on the waiting list for those by calling Steve or Lee on 01483 715580.
